Natalee and Fran, owners of Paper Scissors Rock
It all started in 2018…
Fran and Natalee got the opportunity to purchase Saxon By Design, a well-established salon in Howick, they jumped at the chance to work together again. They knew they wanted to make the salon theirs and in 2020 rebranded to Paper Scissors Rock with a new fitout.
They both love their new salon and have succeeded in creating a space and vibe where clients and staff feel comfortable and have fun. The plan is to grow their little gem in Howick and look forward to welcoming you to experience Paper Scissors Rock.
Meet The Team
Fran
Fran brings 25 years of experience and a true passion for hairdressing to Paper Scissors Rock. After previously working alongside Natalee and then opening her own salon, Fran embraced the opportunity to purchase PSR and return to the energy of a busy salon environment.
A highly skilled precision stylist and colourist, Fran has a genuine love for her craft. She is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of hairdressing at PSR, overseeing all training in the salon to ensure excellence. Her expertise and commitment to her team and clients make her an invaluable part of the PSR family.
Natalee
Natalee brings over 30 years of experience in the hairdressing industry to Paper Scissors Rock. As a former co-owner of a successful Auckland hairdressing salon group, she has honed her expertise in HR and administration, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.
Her true passion lies in creating a welcoming and friendly environment for everyone who visits the salon. Natalee’s warmth and genuine care make every client feel right at home as soon as they walk through the door.
Trish
Trish brings a wealth of experience to our team, with more years in the industry than she can count! She has a deep passion for her craft and still loves creating beautiful perms and body waves, keeping this timeless art alive. Trish’s ultimate goal is to make every client feel their absolute best—and what better place to start than with fabulous hair?
She loves being part of the Paper Scissors Rock team, working in our beautiful, spacious salon alongside a variety of talented stylists, each with their own unique sense of humour. As Trish says, it’s like a box of chocolates—you never know what you’re going to get on any given day!
Outside the salon, Trish enjoys yoga, pilates, gardening, and spending time with her friends and family.
Taka
Taka is a highly skilled stylist from Japan who has made New Zealand his home. You’ll find him in the salon on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, where he specialises in cutting both women's and men's hair. Known for his precision cuts and famous head massages, Taka ensures every client leaves feeling refreshed and pampered.

Steph
Steph is our talented stylist from Durban, South Africa, and we are thrilled to have her on the team! With 18 years in the industry, her journey to Paper Scissors Rock began when a former client and friend, now living in Howick, saw our post about hiring a senior stylist and knew Steph would be the perfect fit.
Making the big move to New Zealand Steph brings exceptional expertise in colour, balayage, hair ups, and perms. Her stunning work and warm, friendly manner ensure every client feels right at home in her chair.
Katie
Katie is one of the shining stars on our apprentice team. Having joined us part-time while still at school, she’s now full-time and thriving as she learns all aspects of hairdressing. Katie’s dedication and enthusiasm make her a valued member of our team, and we’re excited to see her continue to grow into an incredible stylist.
Laska
Laska is our talented apprentice with a natural flair for hairdressing and an exciting future ahead of her. A fantastic all-rounder, Laska is always on top of everything and keeps us all on our toes! Her positive energy and willingness to learn make her a joy to have around the salon, and we can’t wait to see all she achieves in her career.
Leo
Leo (Leonora) is a superstar when it comes to pixie cuts and fine hair. With fine hair herself, she truly understands how to work with it, creating styles that are both modern and classy. She loves helping clients embrace their individuality with funky, stylish pixie cuts that are timeless and chic.
Leo enjoys being part of the friendly and welcoming team at Paper Scissors Rock, where every client’s needs are catered to with care and professionalism. When she’s not in the salon, you’ll find her reading, walking, or meditating to unwind and recharge.
Jess
Jessica brings over 20 years of experience as a salon owner to Paper Scissors Rock, with a wealth of knowledge in customer care and a keen eye for detail. Known for her impressive skill set, Jessica specialises in all aspects of colouring and cutting, always delivering thoughtfully crafted and flattering colours tailored to each client.
Trained to the highest level and continuously educating herself, Jessica’s passion for colour shines through in her ability to create personalised, stunning results. She prides herself on offering the best possible service to every client, whether they’ve been with her for years or are visiting for the first time.
Outside of the salon, Jessica enjoys immersing herself in nature and loves a good hike with friends. She’s excited to welcome you to Paper Scissors Rock and create a look you’ll love!
